Clio Open the panel

Clio keeps the chronicle of your Discord community.

It welcomes whoever joins, hands out roles, logs what happens and knows who invited whom. You set it up from a web panel; the server only sees the result.

It's in open beta. It's free, and the core will stay free.

An ordinary Tuesday in Northern Bastion, as told by Clio

Northern Bastion is a made-up community of 842 people, and the names are made up too. What Clio writes is exactly what you'd see in Discord. Scroll right to see the whole day.

  1. Someone joins

    welcome

    ClioAPP

Welcome, @Marta! There are now 842 of us in Northern Bastion. Have a look at #rules and introduce yourself in #introductions.

    Invited by @Hugo

A message when someone joins, with the server variables filled in.

  2. And gets a DM

    Direct message to Marta

    ClioAPP

Hi Marta. I'm Clio, the bot for Northern Bastion. Groups for games are put together in #looking-for-group. If you get stuck on anything, post in #help and the staff will help you out.

The welcome DM, with the rules or the first steps.

  3. Staff see it logged

    logs staff only

    ClioAPP

Marta joined. Account is 3 years old.

    Invite north-yt from @Hugo: 12 valid, 0 fake.

    Auto role: Recruit

Member and invite logs: who brought in whom, and whether the account looks trustworthy.

  4. Someone deletes a message

    logs staff only

    ClioAPP

Message deleted in #general, from @Leo:

anyone got the code for tonight's tournament?

Deleted and edited messages, with the text that was there.

  5. Someone comes back

    logs staff only

    ClioAPP

Dani is back after 4 months.

    Roles restored: VIP, Veteran

Persistent roles: whoever leaves and comes back gets back what they had.

  6. Someone leaves

    welcome

    ClioAPP

Ruth has left the server. They were with us for 2 years and 3 months.

A message when someone leaves. You can turn it off, like everything else.

It works for any community

Clio started out on roleplay servers, which is why it pays attention to things like characters and ranks. But what it does is what any growing server needs: a proper welcome, roles without fighting the permissions screen, and knowing what happened while you weren't looking.

Clans and game servers
Roles on join, roles that stick if someone comes back, and a leaderboard of who brings in the most people.
Creators and streamers
A welcome that shows which invite someone used, so you know which video or stream brought each person in. Go-live alerts are on the way.
Study and learning groups
A DM with the rules on join, and a log of what gets deleted or edited.
Fandoms and topic communities
Auto role, goodbye messages, and soon button roles and sticky messages for the rules.
Open source projects
Logs split by channel: members, moderation, voice. Support tickets are on the way.
Roleplay communities
All of the above and, later on, community characters and sign-up with ranks.

What it does today and what's coming

No promised dates. The second list is in order: things at the top come first. For the latest, see the roadmap.

Ready to turn on

Welcome and goodbye
A message when people join and leave, with variables like their name, the server or how many of you there are. You see it before you save.
DM on join
The rules or the first steps, just for the new person.
Auto role
One or more roles for anyone who joins.
Persistent roles
Whoever leaves and comes back gets their old roles back: VIP, donor, veteran.
Logs
Members, deleted or edited messages, moderation, voice and server. Each category in the channel you pick.
Invites
Who invited whom, a leaderboard, and which invites are fake because the account is new or left right away.
Web panel
Everything above is set up from your browser, with your Discord account.

On the way

Tickets
Panels with buttons, categories and a transcript when the ticket closes.
Button roles
Buttons and dropdowns instead of reactions, without the limit of twenty.
Sticky messages
A message that always stays at the bottom of the channel.

Community characters
Post as "Admiral Vega" or as the narrator, with per-role permissions for each character.
Giveaways Advanced: premium
Duration, winners and a required role.
Scheduled announcements Repeating: premium
Write the announcement in Discord, right-click it, pick a channel and a date.
Invite campaigns Premium
With dates, rules, a live leaderboard and an automatic winner.
Twitch and YouTube
Go-live and new-video alerts for anyone with the creator role.
Sign-up and ranks Premium
An application form, staff approval, roles and a formatted nickname, promotions.

You set it up in a panel, not with a pile of commands

You log in with your Discord account, pick the server and fill in fields with plain names: "Message on join", "Channel", "Auto role". Next to them you see the message exactly as it will look in Discord, and nothing changes until you press Save. Only people who manage the server can get in.

Open the panel

Welcome

What someone sees when they join or leave the server.

Message on join

Clio greets each new person in a channel.

Channel # welcome
Message Welcome, {user}! There are now {count} of us in **{server}**. Have a look at #rules and introduce yourself in #introductions. {user}{user.name}{server}{count}{inviter}

Leave message

Optional. Many communities would rather not announce when someone leaves.

You have unsaved changes.DiscardSave changes
The real panel, recreated in HTML. You log in with Discord and Clio only shows the servers you manage.

Free during the beta. The core, free for good.

Clio is in open beta: it works, we use it on our own servers, and there will be bugs and changes. While it lasts you pay nothing and there are no hidden limits.

What every community needs won't cost anything
Welcome messages, roles, logs, invites, basic giveaways, embed messages and one ticket panel will stay free when version 1 comes out.
Premium is labeled from day one

Features that will be paid later on already carry a label saying so, so you know which ones they are before you rely on them. During the beta they work like everything else.

Premium: free in the beta
You'll hear before anything costs money
When premium becomes a subscription, it will be announced well in advance on the support server and here. People who were in the beta will get something in return.
What will be free and what will be premium. The exact limits may change based on what comes out of the beta.

Try it on your server

Add it, open the panel, and in ten minutes you have a welcome message, an auto role and logs. If something doesn't feel right, say so on the support server: the beta is built on what you ask for.
